The world is tuned in with the latest happenings at Flushing Meadows, New York as the 2010 US Open Tennis begins on August 30, 2010. The world’s best players converge at the Big Apple to get the big bite of the cash prize set for the winners of the fourth Grand Slam event of the year.
Defending champion Juan Martin Del Potro of Argentina has decided to pull out of the tournament because he believes he’s still not fit to compete at his best level following his surgery earlier this year. 2009 runner-up Roger Federer is raring to go another step and claim his 17th Grand Slam title. However, he will have to deal with other formidable players such as world number one Rafael Nadal, number three Novak Djokovic and number four Andy Murray. Not to be underestimated are the players within the top 100. It is definitely everyone’s game.
In the women’s side, Danish player Caroline Wozniacki secured the top seeding after American Serena Williams pulled out due to nagging foot injury. It is definitely a big disappointment not to see Williams compete this year as she made headlines last year in this event in the semifinals.

The last Grand Slam event of 2010 takes place at Flushing Meadows, New York and tennis stars from all over the world are taking part at the prestigious 2010 US Open Tennis Tournament.
The men’s US Open 2010 event is definitely filled with star power as the world’s top five have signed up for the tournament. Top seed Rafael Nadal will attempt to secure his first title in New York to complete a Career Slam of his own. Second seed Roger Federer is gunning for the record-setting 17th Grand Slam title. The Swiss star finished runner-up last year to Argentine Juan Martin Del Potro. However, the latter won’t be back this year to defend the title due to injury. Could this be a good indicator for Federer?
The women’s side lacks the much-needed star power due to the absence of world number one Serena Williams, past champion Justine Henin and many more. However, another Williams is in the draw – 2-time champion Venus Williams who’d definitely be a dangerous player to deal with in this hardcourt slam.

The 2010 Rogers Cup Final match between Roger Federer and Andy Murray is going to be an interesting one since both players have won the title the in the past. Murray is the defending champion of this prestigious event while Federer clinched the trophy in 2004 and 2006.
Federer is now assured of the number two ranking by virtue of his win over Novak Djokovic in the semifinals. The other match was contested between Andy Murray and world number one Rafael Nadal. However it was the former who prevailed.
