The rumors are getting louder and louder. Current world number two tennis player Roger Federer may hire ESPN broadcaster and now former Australia Davis Cup coach Darren Cahill to become his mentor in preparation for the upcoming tournaments this season.

Cahill is known for having coached former world number ones Lleyton Hewitt and Andre Agassi. These two players went on to create a record (Hewitt for being the youngest year-end number one; and Agassi for being the oldest year-end number one).

The speculations just got stronger after Federer, who’s been coach-less for quite some time, decided not to participate in next week’s ATP event in Dubai and next month’s Davis Cup tie against United States. Cahill, on the other hand, announced that he’s stepping down as the coach of the Australian Davis Cup team, just less than a month before the scheduled match against Thailand.

If the rumors are true, then this break could be an ample opportunity for the duo to discuss tactics and for Federer to train hard for the clay season (which is currently dominated by his rival Rafael Nadal).
