The fans are going to be treated with an exciting semifinal matchup between Serena and Venus Williams at the ongoing Dubai Tennis Championship after both players advanced with straight-set wins against their opponents on Thursday.

Serena Williams, currently the world number one player, defeated eight-seeded Serbian Ana Ivanovic (6-4, 6-4) while older sister Venus eliminated defending champion Elena Dementieva of Russia (6-3, 6-3).

In a post match interview, Serena Williams said: “We are both the best players on the tour right now.”

“Obviously, we both are also playing our best tennis right now, which definitely makes our matches more exciting,” she added.

The head-to-head match record between the siblings currently stands at 9-9 and the upcoming match will break this tie.

Serena Williams may be considered a favorite in the upcoming match considering that she won the Australian Open title last month but Venus Williams is not to be taken for granted. She won the last match played against her younger sister in last year’s year-end Championships en route to the title.
In the other semifinal, Virginie Razzano of France will meet Kaia Kanepi of Estonia. Both players have defeated higher ranked players to make it this far with Razzano defeating 5th seed Vera Zvonareva in the quarterfinals and Kanepi stopping 3rd seed Jelena Jankovic in the third round.
