Tennis greats to play under new Wimbledon Centre Court roof

Four tennis greats will participate in a series of exhibition matches that will take place at the new Centre Court roof at the All England Club in Wimbledon.

Former Wimbledon champions and world number ones Andre Agassi and Steffi Graf, who are husband and wife, will join Tim Henman and Kim Clijsters in this rare event which takes place on May 17, just weeks before the 2009 Grand Slam tourney.

The event has been dubbed as “A Centre Court Celebration,” which aims to test the newly installed sliding roof, not to mention the air management system. Tickets will go on sale starting March 12 and costs fifty dollars ($50).

The new roof has been placed to prevent rain delays.

Agassi, who retired three years ago, won the Wimbledon in 1992 and reached another final in 1999 but lost to former nemesis Pete Sampras. Graf clinched the title seven times. She retired in 1999.

Clijsters, who retired in 2007, reached the Wimbledon semifinals twice. She only competed with Graf once in her career, losing at the fourth round in the 1999 tournament. Henman, the former British number one player, reached the Wimbledon semifinals four times during his career.
