Agassi to play for WTT Philadelphia Freedoms this July

The World Team Tennis (WTT) league has just become more exciting with the participation of former world number one Andre Agassi in this event later this year.

According to reports, Agassi will play for the Philadelphia Freedom. WTT revealed on Thursday that the tennis legend will compete in at least two matches – on July 10 in Philadelphia and July 17 in Newport Beach, California.

In a statement, Agassi said that he’s honored to become part of the league since the contest is both competitive and fun.
“Team play is a terrific way to showcase tennis, especially for kids. WTT is competitive, it’s fun and there’s a really great energy from the fans,” he said.

The 10-team professional league, participated by both male and female tennis players, is currently entering its 34th season and will run from July 2 to 26 this year.

Agassi had a stellar career in tennis, highlighted with eight career Grand Slam titles and an Olympic gold medal. He retired in 2006.

Other tennis stars to watch for in this event are Venus and Serena Williams, Anna Kournikova, John McEnroe, Michael Chang, Martina Navratilova and twin brothers Bob and Mike Bryan.
