Former world number one player Carlos Moya has no choice but to put his tennis career on hold for an undeterminable period of time due to a hip-bone injury.

The former French Open champion, currently ranked no. 45 in the ATP Tour standings, said that he did not expect the injury to be serious.

“It’s a real hammer blow. I wasn’t expecting this and it has put a halt to all my plans. I have had pains over the last few months but we were hoping that it wasn’t serious and that I could resume tennis little by little,” Moya was quoted as saying.

The 32-year old player has already pulled out of the ongoing BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, California and will also miss the upcoming high-tier tennis event in Key Biscayne, Miami.

Moya said that he doesn’t know when he’ll be fit to make a return but he said that he’ll only be back if he’s 100% mentally and physically ready.
