She’s back and it’s certainly not out of vengeance but with the renewed hunger on the game she left a couple of years ago.

Kim Clijsters, one of the most liked female tennis players, has officially confirmed her comeback in the WTA Tour.

“The hunger is back. I look forward to the challenge,” the 25-year old former world number one said during a press conference at a tennis facility in Bree, Belgium where she’s currently training.

Clijsters confirmed that she asked for wildcard entries to three hardcourt events that will take place later this year: Cincinnati, Toronto and the U.S. Open in New York.

“I want to be back at my peak as soon as possible, but I know that is not logical to ask that. I will have to take it match by match,” the 2005 US Open champion said.

One of WTA tour’s most admired tennis player, Clijsters announced her retirement at that age of 24, stating that constant injuries made her decide that it is just not worth it to continue competing. She got married to basketball player Brian Lynch in 2007 and gave birth to their first child last year.

Winner of 34 singles titles, Clijsters had one of the best comeback stories in the women’s tour. In 2005, after a long inactivity due to a wrist injury, Clijsters, then ranked 133, won 14 consecutive matches to win both the Indian Wells and Key Biscayne hardcourt titles to make a grand return in the top 20. She then went on to clinch the number one ranking less than a year later.
