Croatian player Mario Ancic visits Harvard to conduct lecture

mario_ancicCroatian tennis player Mario Ancic gave a lecture about the structure, history and business of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) at Harvard Law School on Thursday last week. The lecture and the Q&A session that followed last for nearly two hours.

Unbeknownst to many, Ancic recently graduated with a law degree from Croatia’s University of Split despite having a hectic tennis schedule.

The Croat took the opportunity to tour the university and likened the walk as playing in Wimbledon’s Center Court.

“It was like playing on Centre Court at Wimbledon. It’s even more than I imagined it would be, and I felt very privileged to walk the grounds and visit places like the Harvard Law School and the Harvard Business School,” Ancic said.
He also shared that he saw the former office space of now-U.S. President Barack Obama when the latter was still the Harvard Law Review editor.
“There are so many famous people who have studied here who have gone on to change the world in many ways,” he said.

Ancic achieved a career high world ranking of seven a couple of years ago. However, a glandular fever forced him to take a break from the ATP tour for several months. In 2008, he saw his ranking rise from 86 to 36 which earned him a nomination in the “Comeback Player of the Year” category in the ATP World Tour Awards. The winners will be announced on Wednesday.

The Croatian player will be taking part in the upcoming Sony Ericsson Open in Miami, Florida.
