First round of global competitions at the Davis Cup has begun and in the World Group, only three countries (Russia, Croatia and Argentina) swept a clean 2-o lead over rivals.
Despite the absence of Roger Federer, the Swiss team produced a minor upset. Stanislas Wawrinka defeated James Blake in four sets (3-6, 6-4, 6-3, 7-6). However, the U.S. team evened things out with Andy Roddick’s straight sets win over Marco Chiudinelli (6-1, 6-3, 7-6).
