Larry Scott to step down as WTA CEO and Chairman

larry_scottWTA Tour Chairman and CEO Larry Scott will step down from his post in July this year, capping off six successful years in the said position. Several monumental changes were seen in the women’s tour under Scott’s leadership.

According to the WTA Tour, Scott has accepted the job as Commissioner of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) PAC-10 Conference.

Scott explained his reasons for leaving his current post.

“With women’s professional tennis more popular than ever, the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour in the strongest business position in its history and with a fantastic senior management team in place, now is the right time for me to embrace a new challenge consistent with my family and personal goals, and leave room for the next generation of Tour leadership to take on new responsibilities,” Scott said in a statement published by the WTA Tour website.

Prior to his stint at the WTA, Scott served as Chief Operating Officer of the ATP Tour. According to the WTA site, Scott will be working with the tour board in searching for his replacement.
