In just five minutes, the tickets for a pre-Wimbledon exhibition match have sold out.
The event dubbed as “A Centre Court Celebration” features players who have retired from competitive tennis but has left a legion of fans. Players include former Wimbledon champions Steffi Graf and husband Andre Agassi, as well as British player Tim Henman and Belgian former world number one Kim Clijsters. There will be women’s and men’s singles matches plus a mixed doubles match.
This momentous event will take place on May 17 under the new Centre Court roof at the All England Club. This is to test the newly installed roof which will come in handy during matches that could encounter sudden rain showers. The Wimbledon 2009 will be held from June 22 to July 5.
This could serve as an inspiration for Clijsters to make a comeback in competitive tennis. There have been speculations that she’s been spending more court time in preparation of upcoming events. (Check out related article HERE).
It’s been confirmed that the Belgian will compete at the World Team Tennis (WTT) league events in July. She’ll be playing two matches for St. Louis Aces on July 21 and 22.
