World number one Serena Williams is gunning for a sixth Key Biscayne title to break the tie between her and tennis legend Steffi Graf in the most number of title wins in this tournament.

Williams, who just live a little more than an hour away from the tournament venue, said during the press conference that she considers the Sony Ericsson Open as a “home event.”

“I love playing here. I have so many friends that come down. Some of them can’t come in the beginning; they can only come at the end. So I always joke that I’ve got to be playing at the end of the tournament. It has worked for me in the past,” Williams was quoted as saying.

This year’s Australian Open champion is the defending champion in the event and got a first-round bye. A semi-final clash with her equally famous sister, 28-year old Venus Williams, is at the offing. Venus has won the Key Biscayne title three times.

The Williams sisters were noticeably absent in the recently concluded BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, California. The duo has skipped the events for the past eight years. Russian player Vera Zvonareva won the title last week.
