Serena Williams prevails at Madison Square Garden

Despite the snowstorm, more than 12,000 fans flocked at the Madison Square Garden in New York to witness high quality tennis action featuring world’s top female tennis players.

The Billie Jean King Cup sponsored by BNP Paribas concluded with current world number one Serena Williams winning the title at the expense of her older sister, Venus Williams in a two set thriller (6-4, 6-3).

It was an all-Williams final once more after the duo dispatched their Serbian rivals at the one-set semifinal rounds. Serena Williams ousted Ana Ivanovic (6-3) and Venus Williams advanced with a 6-4 victory over Jelena Jankovic.

Before the final match began, former U.S. President Bill Clinton together with racer Janet Guthrie and skaters Sarah Hughes and Nancy Kerrigan graced the courts to honor Billie Jean King for her achievements and contributions to women’s tennis.
