Tennis-themed magazine goes “on hiatus”

Tennis Week announced this week that it will be putting its print edition “on hiatus” this year to focus more on its online edition (www.tennisweek.com) and other digital media-related marketing campaign.

IMG Publishing, which acquired the Tennis Week brand name in 2006 from its previous owner Eugene Scott, considered the viewer’s demand for fresh updates the soonest time possible and the website can provide that.

“We certainly respect the heritage of the Tennis Week print edition, but covering the game these days requires immediacy and urgency, and we must address the new media habits of tennis fans. They want instant news, they want video, and they want content that moves as fast as the game itself,” said IMG Publishing Senior Vice President Brandusa Niro.

The magazine was founded in 1974 by former top 15 tennis player Eugene Scott. Seven months after Scott’s death, IMG Publishing acquired the magazine. There have been speculations that the magazine will close down soon.
