Nine-time Grand Slam winner and former world number one Monica Seles revealed in her latest memoir that amidst all the successes she achieved in tennis, she still had her fair share of struggles and depression.
Her book titled “Getting a Grip: On My Body, My Mind, My Self” chronicles the tennis star’s humble beginnings, triumphs at the height of her tennis career, the attack in Germany that still haunts her to this day and her struggle with diet and depression when she was away from the tennis limelight.
The 35-year old revealed that there were nights wherein she had to sneak out and buy junk food in supermarkets and binge in secret. She said that she had all the diet books on hand and the best trainers one could have but to no avail, her depression still remained.
Her retirement in 2003 led to a change in her lifestyle, Seles revealed.
She started walking outside and sticking to healthier foods. Her efforts paid off.
