Rome Masters 2009 begins

The Internazionali BNL d’Italia, popularly known as the Rome Masters, features eight of the world’s top ten ATP players. Last year’s champion Novak Djokovic of Serbia will have a tough task of defending the title with several claycourt experts lurking in his draw.

If he performs well this week, he could possibly meet three-time champ Rafael Nadal in the finals. In this tournament last year, Nadal made a shocking second round defeat in the hands of Juan Carlos Ferrero. However, the world number one is expected to do well after winning his fifth Monte Carlo and fifth Barcelona Open titles for the past two weeks.
