Victoria Azarenka steals tennis limelight

Victoria Azarenka proved that her recent inclusion in the world’s top ten was no fluke when she dispatched Australian player Samantha Stosur (6-1, 6-0) in the quarterfinals of the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami on Tuesday. The match lasted less than an hour.

The Belarusian will face Russian Svetlana Kuznetsova after that latter defeated Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark in three tight sets (6-4, 6-7, 6-1). This will serve as the fourth meeting between the two with Kuznetsova winning their first three encounters. However, the Russian won’t take this match lightly because Azarenka is definitely in fine form this year, winning two titles so far this season. Azarenka also made it in the final four of last week’s Indian Wells singles tournament thus earning her ticket within the world’s top ten for the first time.

“I’ve never beaten her before. She’s a great player. Obviously she has been playing very well this tournament, too. She had a great win today. I just want to keep going and play the same way I played today. Better if it’s possible. And that’s it. I just want to try my best in that match,” Azarenka said about Kuznetsova.

In the other side of the draw, the highly anticipated semifinal matchup between Serena and Venus Williams is just a round away and in order for this match to happen, the sisters must dispatch Li Na of China and Iveta Benesova of the Czech Republic respectively.
