David Nalbandian to undergo hip surgery

Argentine tennis star David Nalbandian is set to undergo hip surgery next week. This could sideline the former world number three for four to six months, thereby missing lucrative tennis tournaments such as the French Open (May), Wimbledon (June) and Davis Cup (July).

Nalbandian said in an interview with an Argentinian sports channel this week that his right hip is constantly bothering him for the past few weeks. On Tuesday, the 19th ranked player lost to Chile’s Paul Capdeville in the first round of Estoril Open.

The former Wimbledon runner-up was expected to team up with compatriot Juan Martin del Potro at the Davis Cup quarterfinals which will be held in Czech Republic this July.
