Japanese tennis star pulls out of French Open

Japan’s number one male tennis player Kei Nishikori has officially pulled out of next week’s French Open due to elbow injury. He has not played since his first round defeat at Indian Wells two months ago.

The Japanese star won his first career title last year at Delray Beach as a qualifier, beating then top seed James Blake of United States in the finals. He made it as high as no. 56 in the world rankings thanks to his fourth round finish at the 2008 US Open. He’s currently ranked 117.

The 2008 ATP Newcomer of the Year awardee has just been given a wildcard entry at the AEGEON Championships, a grasscourt event which takes place at London’s Queen’s Club from June 8-14.
