Maria Sharapova to make singles comeback at Polish capital

Three-time Grand Slam winner Maria Sharapova announced on her website Monday that she’ll be playing her first singles match in almost 10 months at a claycourt tournament in Warsaw, Poland next week.

“I know it is going to take me a while to get back into the groove of playing tournaments and matches, but I am so excited to be competing again,” Sharapova wrote.

A torn rotator cuff in her right shoulder forced the Russian tennis star to miss several lucrative tournaments for nearly a year, even failing to defend the Australian Open title this year. She’s currently ranked 65th in the world.

Her highly anticipated singles comeback had been postponed several times with rumors circulating that she’ll miss the entire claycourt season. She did not mention on her online entry if she’ll take part at the Roland Garros later this month.
