Defending Internazionali BNL d’Italia champion Novak Djokovic dismissed Argentine Juan Martin del Potro in the quarterfinals to set up a highly-anticipated matchup with world number 2 Roger Federer in the semifinals. The Swiss will have a chance to avenge his defeat from the Serbian last month in Miami.

Djokovic beat del Potro 6-3, 6-4. The 21-year old has not dropped a set so far this week and was notably impressive when he handily defeated claycourt specialist Tommy Robredo on Thursday.

Meanwhile, two-time Rome finalist Federer dispatched German qualifier Mischa Zverev 7-6, 6-2. Despite the loss, Zverev still had an impressive week defeating Gilles Simon of France in the third round.

In the other side of the draw, world number one Rafael Nadal cruised to the semifinals in less than two hours after beating compatriot Fernando Verdasco 6-3, 6-3. The three-time Rome titlist awaits the winner between Juan Monaco and Fernando Gonzalez in the other quarterfinal which will be contested later in the day.
