* From underdog to favorite: Sisters Venus and Serena Williams have expressed interest to take part in November’s FED Cup final against Italy. During a press conference at the start of the Italian Open this week, Venus Williams said they’ve talked about it and are hoping to play as long as they “stay healthy” by that time. That’s additional headache for the Italian team’s coach who’s hoping that the siblings won’t participate.
The U.S. has won the FED Cup 17 times but has never lifted the trophy since 2000 while Italy reached the finals three times for the past four years, winning the FED Cup in 2006.
* Americans Lauren Embree and John Isner secured wildcard berths for the upcoming Roland Garros after winning the ladies’s and men’s qualifying tournaments sanctioned by the United States Tennis Association (USTA).
