Tennis grunters are “cheats” – Navratilova

Tennis legend Martina Navratilova is not about to be left unnoticed at this year’s French Open. On Wednesday, the 18-time Grand Slam winner branded grunting tennis players as “cheats,” saying that something must be done to rectify this “unacceptable” behavior.

“Roger Federer doesn’t make a noise when he hits the ball – go and listen. The grunting has reached an unacceptable level. It is cheating, pure and simple. It is time for something to be done,” Navratilova said during the ITF World Champions Dinner where she was awarded the prestigious Philippe Chatrier Award for her achievements.

Even though she did not mention names, it has been noted by media that WTA players such as Maria Sharapova, Serena Williams, Venus Williams and young Portuguese player Michelle Larcher De Brito have loud grunts that could challenge the eardrums.

There have been reports that this subject might be discussed by the Grand Slam committee in the coming days.
