Wimbledon 2009: Rafael Nadal considers playing in tune-up

World number one Rafael Nadal showed signs that he will be taking part in this year’s Wimbledon after announcing that he’s considering taking part in a grasscourt exhibition match on Friday.

The defending Wimbledon champion will play against Swiss player Stanislas Wawrinka if he accepts the invitation.

The Spaniard made headlines last week when he pulled out of Queen’s Club due to knee problems. He hinted that he might not be able to defend the grasscourt Slam if the problem persists. He was the defending champion of the Queen’s club tourney which was won last weekend by British player Andy Murray.

The exhibition match is set to be played at the Hurlingham Club in London.

“I have played at that club for several years now. It would be a good test for me to play there on Friday to see how the knee is doing and it would provide the perfect setting to get some practice before Wimbledon,” Nadal said on his website.
