Davis Cup: Andy Roddick bails out due to hip injury

American tennis player Andy Roddick won’t be able to compete with his team in this week’s Davis Cup quarterfinal tie against Croatia due to hip injury.

The world number six finished runner-up at the recently concluded Wimbledon men’s final, losing a marathon match against Swiss world no. 1 Roger Federer.

Roddick will be replaced by Mardy Fish, who pulled out of the Hall of Fame Championships this week due to this sudden development.

Andy has been a stalwart for this team the past nine years, and his dedication to Davis Cup and his teammates is unquestioned,” US Davis Cup team captain Patrick McEnroe said.

The US – Croatia tie will take place on claycourts in Porec, Croatia this coming weekend.

The US Team is now composed of Fish, James Blake and twins Mike and Bob Bryan.

Croatia will be represented by Ivo Karlovic and Marin Cilic.
