Rogers Cup 2009: Rafael Nadal unsure on defending title in Montreal

Rafael Nadal‘s return to tennis may not happen at the Rogers Cup in Montreal, Canada in the next couple of weeks if it is based on a recent interview he made at a Spanish television network.
“I have to wait and see how I continue to recover because I’ve only been back training for a week and a half and you always feel a bit better anemically. You start with lots of hope, but again, the real test would be to see how I go when I really push my knees and I think that is likely to happen in the upcoming days. So I hope it’s all good,” the world number two was quoted as saying.
If the Spaniard decides to skip this prestigious tournament, he’ll be losing a lot of ranking points considering that he’s the defending champion. He might also lose the number two ranking in the process. He relinquished the number one ranking earlier this month when he decided not to defend the Wimbledon title.

I wish people would leave rafa alone and let him come back when he is good and ready. He is not an idiot he will know whe he is mentally and physically fit.

I want him to be able to achieve whatever he really wants to achieve. I like watching him play and if his goal is to play well and get better, then so be it. If he does not care about being #1 or want to win a grand slam then just play. He is a good sport and a gentleman and has a marvellous game and attitude. You are the very best in my books. Good luck, Rafa, in whatever you aspire to do.
