Cincinnati Masters 2009: Roger Federer clinches title

Fatherhood has definitely not affected Roger Federer’s game which is evidenced by his victory in last Sunday’s Cincinnati Masters.

The world number one defeated Serbia’s Novak Djokovic in the ATP 1000 tournament final 6-1, 7-5. This served as his first title win since his twin girls were born last month.

“That’s the special part, especially winning for the first time as a dad. It gets me going emotionally a little bit, because I know it’s been a wonderful summer,” Federer said after his win.

The victory propelled Federer in fourth place of the US Open Series rankings. However, since he’s not taking part in this week’s Pilot Pen Tennis tournament, it would be likely for him to become first in the rankings. He’ll be competing in next week’s US Open where he’s the defending champion.

As for Djokovic, the runner-up finish is still a great achievement. The Serbian world number four is now looking forward to the US Open next week.
