Legg Mason: Andy Roddick to face del Potro in title match

Andy Roddick managed to edge out compatriot John Isner 6-7, 6-2, 7-5 at the semifinals of the Legg Mason Tennis Classic, the event that he won three times.

This year’s Wimbledon finalist will have a tough opponent in the final, defending champion Juan Martin del Potro of Argentina. The Argentine outlasted Chile’s Fernando Gonzalez 7-6, 6-3 in the other semifinal.

“John made me play my best tennis tonight. I think anything less than that wasn’t going to get it done,” Roddick said after the match.

Del Potro and Gonzalez had to deal with the humid weather in their match, which took place in the afternoon. It was the Chilean who gave in first as signs of fatigue showed during the second set.

The Sunday’s final match will serve as the second meeting between del Potro and Roddick. The Argentine prevailed in their first encounter.
