Rogers Cup 2009: Rafael Nadal to participate – coach

The much anticipated return of world number two Rafael Nadal in tennis starts in Montreal next week. This was confirmed by the Spaniard’s uncle and coach Toni Nadal on Monday.

Nadal did not take part in major competitions following his fourth round loss at the French Open due to tendinitis on both knees. His two-month absence cost him the number one ranking which was regained by his rival Roger Federer after the latter won the Wimbledon title for the sixth time.

Toni Nadal made this confirmation via a radio interview in Spain.

“It’s another thing to know what standard he will be at. I imagine he won’t be in very good condition. He has been training but without really pushing it very much,” he was quoted as saying.

Nadal is the defending Rogers Cup champion. This ATP 1000 tournament begins next week in Montreal, Canada.
