Davis Cup 2009: Philippines regains Group I seat after defeating New Zealand

The Philippine Davis Cup team outperformed New Zealand (4-1) during the final of the Davis Cup Asia Oceana Group II competitions held at the PCA Center Court in Manila last weekend. The Filipino netters sealed the victory when they won the doubles match on Sunday to make it 3-0, leaving the next two games non-bearing.

This means that the Philippine team regained its seat in Group I and will now have a chance to contest one of the World Group playoff seats next year. The team is composed of Cecil Mamiit, Treat Conrad Huey, Johnny Arcilla and Elbert Anasta.
The Philippine team will join Australia, Kazakhstan, Japan, Korea, Chinese Taipei and China in Group I competition next year.
