US Open 2009: Serena Williams gets $10,500 for outburst

World number two Serena Williams has been fined $10,500 by the US Open organizers for her outbursts during her semifinal match against Kim Clijsters. The $10,000 fine was set for her tirade towards a line judge while the $500 fine was set for racquet abuse.
The story is certainly far from over as officials are mulling over the possibility of handing out more penalties to the 11-time Grand Slam champion once the investigation has taken place.
Williams released an official statement on the matter:
“Last night everyone could truly see the passion I have for my job. Now that I have had time to gain my composure, I can see that, while I don’t agree with the unfair line call, in the heat of battle I let my passion and emotion get the better of me and as a result handled the situation poorly,” she said.
“I would like to thank my fans and supporters for understanding that I am human and I look forward to continuing the journey, both professionally and personally, with you all as I move forward and grow from this experience.”
Williams is slated to play on Monday with sister Venus for the women’s doubles final.

Although I am very surprised that Ms. Williams had such an outburst, she’s is human. Both the sisters has had to live through unkind things that have been said about them and they have with stood it with grace and charm. They have always had kind words to say at the time of loss and win’s. I as a black woman am still very proud of both the Williams sisters and the hard work that they have had to do to get where they are in this sport. Keep up the good work!. Her being black has given this incident wings that has allowed it to take off. One outburst in how many years of playing this volotile and tense sport, lets move on.
