It won’t be an all-Belgian affair in the women’s singles final match of this year’s US Open after Caroline Wozniacki defeated 50th-ranked Yanina Wickmayer of Belgium in the semifinals. In the other match, former world number one Kim Clijsters won after a bizarre ending featuring her opponent, Serena Williams, getting penalized for “unsportsmanlike conduct.” The penalty point happened to be a match point for Clijsters thus ending Williams’ reign in New York.

Women’s tennis has gone to the dogs when people are panting for the return of Henin & clijsters. Justine Henin is a glorified overhyped version of Nathalie Tauziat minus the tell it like it is personality. Clijsters is the poor man’s aranxta sanchez vicario Minus the spitfire personality. Serena Williams and Venus have become lazy, complacent coming to events out of shape expecting to win and often do. A shame. They would dare do this when Monica, Lindsay and Jenifer were still out there keeping them honest. Keeping the game interesting with good rivalry and excellent competition. Please, please, please! Women’s tennis needs American women to become champions to boost the popularity to create first rate rivalries to show ‘em how its done.
