For the first time since 2007, world number one Serena Williams is back on the United States Fed Cup team.
The U.S. team will face host Italy in the FED Cup final on November 7 to 8, 2009. Joining Williams in the roster are surprise US Open quarterfinalist Melanie Oudin, Alexa Glatch and top-ranked doubles player Liezel Huber.
US Fed Cup captain Mary Joe Fernandez stated that she’s confident that her team can win the title this year. The U.S. has not clinched the championship for the past nine years.
Williams is currently competing the Sony Ericsson Championships where she’s currently reached the semifinal stage. Her older sister, Venus, is not part of the Fed Cup team for the finals.
