Andy Murray wins sixth title of season in Valencia

World number four Andy Murray made a grand return from a wrist injury by winning his sixth title of the season at the ATP 500 Valencia Open. Murray defeated Russia’s Mikhail Youzhny 6-3, 6-2 in the finals.

“I’d say it was a little easier than I had expected, but he is a tough player. I didn’t have high expectations this week, but with every round and match you get more confident. It is very rare for someone to win a tournament after a long break,” Murray said after the match.

Murray did not take part in several tournaments after his early exit in the U.S. Open last September. In the final, he served eight aces which aided him to victory against the 23rd-ranked Russian. Both players had tough three-set semifinal matches on Saturday.

Murray earned 323,000 euros for the victory plus 500 ATP points.

Frantisek Cermak and Michal Mertinak clinched the doubles title and cash prize of 79,000 euros.
