Sony Ericsson Championships 2009 Live: Serena Williams vs. defending champion Venus Williams final match

The Williams sisters will meet each other for the 23rd time, this time for the Sony Ericsson Championships 2009 title.

Defending champion Venus Williams outlasted former top-ranked player Jelena Jankovic 5-7, 6-3, 6-4 to secure the final birth. Her younger sister, Serena Williams progressed to the finals after her opponent Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark retired due to abdominal injury while trailing 6-4, 0-1.

Serena Williams is already assured of the year-end number one ranking regardless of the outcome of the match. She was eliminated in the round robin stage for the past two years but this time she was at her element, remaining undefeated in her past four matches.
In doubles, the Williams sisters were not fortunate to reach the finals after they were beated by Spaniards Nuria Llagostera Vives and Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez 2-6, 6-4, 10-8 in the semifinals.
