Australian Open 2010: David Nalbandian pulls out due to injury

The highly anticipated comeback of former Wimbledon finalist David Nalbandian will have to be delayed once more after the Argentine suffered another injury setback this week, forcing him to withdraw from the Australian Open which begins on Monday.

The 28-year old returned from an eight-month injury break on Tuesday at the Heineken Open in Auckland when he sustained an abdominal injury. He waited for a day to determine the extent of the injury before informing the organizers of the Australian Open that he could not compete in Melbourne.

The former world number three has not yet issued an official statement about his withdrawal but has stated that he’s optimistic about making a fulltime comeback in the ATP circuit in the near future.

Nalbandian’s ranking plummetted to 64 by the end of last season, his lowest for the past ten years
