Australian Open 2010: Roger Federer, Serena Williams get top seeding

Top-ranked Serena Williams and Roger Federer lead the player field for the Australian Open, which begins next week. The organizers followed the WTA and ATP rankings in determing the seeding of the players. Only Belgium’s Yanina Wickmayer, currently ranked 16th, was unable to enjoy the seeding, have had to go through qualifying rounds.

Wickmayer’s one-year ban for doping violations was reversed this month making it possible for her to compete once more in the WTA Tour. She already won a tournament last week in Auckland, making her a tough contender in Melbourne.
