Chennai Open: Marin Cilic successfully defends title

Croatian Marin Cilic successfully defended the Chennai Open title on Sunday after he defeated Stanislas Wawrinka 76 76 in the final. This served as the Croatian’s first victory in five matches against the Swiss player.

“It’s been a good start to the year, winning back-to-back Chennai Open titles will surely boost my confidence. This is an ideal preparation for the Australian Open,” he said.

Cilic emulated the feat by Spaniard Carlos Moya of winning back to back title in Chennai. Moya won the titles in 2004 and 2005.

“I’m proud to have won two titles here. It wasn’t easy out there today, I had to work hard for victory,” Cilic said.
