Rafael Nadal to enter Wimbledon 2010 as top seed

The new rankings released on June 7, 2010 (Monday) revealed that Rafael Nadal is the world’s top-ranked player with 8,700 points. He’s guaranteed to enter the third Grand Slam event of the year – Wimbledon – as the top seed. Meanwhile, Roger Federer, will enter the grasscourt Slam event as the defending champion and second seed.

Here’s the breakdown of points that are expected to come off from the world’s top three players leading to the US Open. The data was provided by ATP Stats Guru Greg Sharko HERE.

  3. Federer will be ranked #1 again after he wins Wimbledon and the U.S. Open. Federer has won Wimbledon 6 times in the past 7 years (including last year, he was a finalist in 2008), and he has won the U.S Open 5 times in the past 6 years (last year he was a finalist).
    Nadal, on the other hand, has won Wimbledon once, and has never made a U.S. open final.

  4. Based on Wimbledon seeding formula Federer will be be seeded at no 1 and Nadal will be 2nd. This is because Wimbledon adds points from last year Wimbledon (Nadal has 0) and 75% of points from 2 years ago. The exact formula can be checked at Wimbledon website.
