Defending champion Roger Federer and last year’s runner up Robin Soderling will meet once more at the French Open but this time at an earlier round – in the quarterfinals.

Soderling defeated Marin Cilic of Croatia in straight sets 64 64 62 while Roger Federer blasted past good friend Stanislas Wawrinka, also in straight sets 63 76 62.
The highly anticipated match between Robin Soderling and Roger Federer will be interesting considering that the Swede has yet to win against the world number one. Federer holds a 12-0 edge against Soderling but with the latter’s good form this past year might mean that the losing streak may finally end.

“Of course it’s tough to play against Roger, but it’s all tough matches. I hope for a good match. It’s always fun to play against him. But I remember a few times I played against him when I came pretty close, especially one in Halle a couple years ago when I served and returned really well,” Soderling said.

“Because of the improvements he’s made, he’s an opponent not to underestimate. Obviously he beat incredible players on the way to make the finals here last year, so clay seems to also become really his surface of preference,” Federer said.
