World number one Serena Williams will gun for her 13th Grand Slam title as she enters the final stage of the ladies singles event of the 2010 Wimbledon Championships. Her opponent won’t be her older sister Venus but rather a first-time Slam finalist by the name of Vera Zvonareva of Russia.
Zvonareva ousted Tsvetana Pironkova of Bulgaria in the semifinals in tight three sets while Williams overcame a difficult patch in the first set to dispatch Petra Kvitova of Czech Republic in straight sets.
Williams holds a 5-1 head-to-head edge against Zvonareva but the duo have never played each other on grasscourts.
