US Open 2010 Series: Andy Murray, Caroline Wozniacki clinch top honors

World number four Andy Murray finally clinched the US Open Series title after finishing runner-up the past two years. In the women’s side, Danish player Caroline Wozniacki was the runaway winner after winning two consecutive Premier hardcourt titles.

Murray won by virtue of defending the Rogers Cup title in Toronto and reaching the final of the Farmers Classic in Los Angeles. In second place is Cincinnati Masters winner Roger Federer and American player Mardy Fish settled for third.

Last year’s US Open Series ladies champ Kim Clijsters settled for second place while two-time Grand Slam winner Svetlana Kuznetsova clinched the third place.

Murray and Wozniacki will now have the chance to increase their prize winnings to up to $2.7 million each should they win this year’s US Open title. The winner gets the $1 million bonus if they win both the US Open Series and US Open title on the same calendar year.

Federer was the first in the men’s side to achieve the feat. In 2007, he received the biggest paycheck in tennis history at $2.4 million. In 2005, Kim Clijsters received the biggest paycheck in women’s sports history by getting the $2.2 million cash prize.
