World number one Rafael Nadal made it to his third straight US Open Men’s Singles Semifinal after beating compatriot Fernando Verdasco in a thrilling quarterfinal match. The Spaniard attempts to make it one more notch this time by getting past Russian Mihail Youzhny. However, the latter is a dangerous opponent in hardcourt, having made it this far in the US Open in 2006. Nadal will have to exert extra effort to make it to the final and possibly achieve a career Grand Slam (the US Open being the only Slam title he has yet to win).
