The longest running ATP World Tour tennis event in Asia takes place this week in Tokyo, Japan. The Rakuten Japan Open Tennis Championships commenced in 1973 and has since then attracted some of the biggest names in tennis. This ATP World Tour 500 tournament is headlined by none other than world number one Rafael Nadal, who makes his debut in this 32-man field.
Nadal is enjoying a spectacular season, highlighted by three major championships (French, Wimbledon, US Open). He just came from a semifinal finish in Bangkok, Thailand and is raring to improve his play in Tokyo.
Posing a threat to Nadal’s road to victory are Andy Roddick, Juan Martin Del Potro, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Gael Monfils who are included in the men’s draw.
