The 2010 Shanghai Masters takes place once more at the popular Qizhong Tennis Center, the past host of the prestigious year end ATP Championships, and it has been announced that the world’s top twenty players have signed up to be part of the 56-player field in this high-tier tournament.
This is the first time this season that a tournament will feature all the top 20 players, beating the attendance in this year’s four Grand Slam events.
The top seed of the tournament is last year’s Shanghai Masters runner-up Rafael Nadal and defending champion Nikolay Davydenko is also in the field as well. Davydenko went on to qualify for the season-ending Barclays ATP World Tour Finals in London which he won after beating 2009 US Open champion Juan Martin Del Potro.
The Qizhong Tennis Center can seat about 15,000 spectators and with the retractable roof, the matches are expected to stick by schedule.
The Shanghai Masters can certainly boost the chances of players within the top ten to qualify for the ATP World Tour final. Three players have been confirmed so far to take part in the year-end competition: Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic.
