The 2010 season of the WTA Tour comes to a close and eight of the world’s best players in singles and four of the best doubles teams compete for the official year end championships of the ladies tour.
Despite the absence of two of the most formidable players in the women’s tour – Serena Williams and Venus Williams – the women’s field is still strong with the presence of new world number one Caroline Wozniacki and former top-ranked players such as Kim Clijsters and Jelena Jankovic. Two-time Slam finalist of 2010 Vera Zvonareva secured her place in the elite field including French Open 2010 champion Francesca Schiavone and runner-up Samantha Stosur.
A regular in the season-ending event, Russia’s Elena Dementieva made the cut once more in 7th place while Belarussian player Victoria Azarenka secured the last spot after winning the Kremlin Cup this weekend.
