Asian Games 2010 Tennis: Taipei beats Team Philippines

The tough Philippine tennis team succumbed to top seeded Chinese Taipei team in the quarterfinals of the tennis team competitions at the 2010 Asian Games. Both of the singles matches were closely fought. Yang Tsung-hua defeated Treat Conrad Huey in two close sets 7-6 (5), 7-5 while world number 37 Yen-Hsun Lu overpowered Cecil Mamiit 6-2, 7-6.

The Philippine team was not whitewashed however, as Johnny Arcilla and Ruben Gonzales Jr. beat Chu-Huan Yi and Ti Chen 6-4, 6-4.

Despite the loss in the team tennis event, the Filipino tennisters still have two events to look forward to this week – the men’s singles and double’s events.
