Jo-Wilfried Tsonga ends 2010 season early due to injury

A recurring injury in his left knee has forced French player Jo-Wilfried Tsonga to end the 2010 ATP season early. According to reports, the injury originally occurred at Wimbledon which left the world number 13 to miss the North American hardcourt season. In his comeback tournament at Open Sud de France, the knee injury occurred once more. He reached the semifinals in the event where he lost to compatriot and eventual tournament winner Gael Monfils.

This means that the world number 13 is now out in the running for the prestigious ATP World Tour Finals in London. He had a running chance to make it to the eight-man tournament if he finishes well in this week’s BNP Paribas Masters in Bercy. He won’t be able to represent his country in the Davis Cup final against Serbia next month.
“I will need to have six weeks of complete rest,” Tsonga said.

“I could have played by taking loads of anti-inflammatories, but the risk is getting injured for six months. It’s the hardest moment of my career, along with pulling out of the Olympic Games [in] 2008,” he added.
