Robson looks to make 2011 her year

Laura Robson has already started to attract the kind of hype that has hindered British tennis players in recent years, with Andy Murray and Tim Henman never managing to achieve what the British press expected of them. However, at number 217 in the WTA Tour rankings, Robson is certainly not expected to be picking up too many titles just yet.

However, whilst the 16-year-old clearly has time on her side, she will know that the key to having a successful career is getting into the major competitions early on to compete against the best, something that she can do by qualifying for the Australian Open and then getting past the first round of the tournament.

With australian open betting pundits noting how Robson and Andy Murray previously crashed out of the Hyundai Hopman Cup early on after a rather lacklustre showing, Robson now needs to show that she is a better player than her performances in Australia so far have shown.

However, with Robson likely to be battling extreme heat and, should she qualify for the Open, players who will have been refreshed by a longer break than the one she has been able to enjoy, the fact remains that it appears unlikely  that it is going to be the tournament in which she makes her big breakthrough in the women’s game.

Despite this, Robson will be playing without having to worry about the added pressure that she receives when she is playing in the UK and, if she can take advantage of this and her new coach Patrick Mouratoglou can help her continue to raise the standard of her game, then it may just be the start of a truly fantastic year for the young Robson.
