Roland Garros News: French Open officials vote to stage event at same venue

It has been reported that the French Open officials voted in favor of keeping the Grand Slam event at the same venue.

It can be remembered that there was a proposal last year to move the event from the Roland Garros Stadium to another venue in a bid to accomodate more spectators. There were three venues considered to host the Roland Garros tournament starting 2016.

The French Tennis Federation (FFT) announced on Sunday that it has decided that the original venue will just undergo a renovation instead of moving to another location.

“The Federation decided to stay on its original site at Porte d’Auteuil. It chose an ambitious, prestigious project resolutely looking to the future,” the organization said in a statement.
There were mixed reactions when the announcement came out. World number one Kim Clijsters said that she was happy with the decision while former world number one Amelie Mauresmo, now the tournament director of the recently concluded Open Gaz de France, said that the venue should have been moved.
